ERASURE | An introduction to the winter exhibition by curator Eleanor Clarke

Against the backdrop of COP30, ERASURE brings together three international artists, Laís Amaral, Solange Pessoa and Dana Awartani, whose diverse practice weave together environmental consciousness and cultural memory. Each approaching the land not as a passive subject, but as a living body, wounded, but capable of healing and desperately in need of care.

Palestinian Saudi artist Dana Awartani presents I Went Away And Forgot You. A While Ago I Remembered. I Remembered I’d Forgotten You. I Was Dreaming (2017), a multi-media installation named after a poem by Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish.

In her first institutional exhibition in Europe, rising Brazilian artist Laís Amaral presents a series of mixed-media paintings that grapple with environmental collapse. Addressing desertification, water scarcity and the “whitening” of Brazilian territories, her practice is rooted in her background in social and environmental activism, drawing parallels between ecological destruction and cultural erasure.
